I have not been updating my blog for almost a week already. The reason being not keeping this blog updated is because first I was busy watching my TVB series. Heheh. Second was because Xixi fall sick for the past few days, fever and throat infection starts attacked her on Wednesday. She is still on medication now but I’m glad that her appetite is back. Her mood swing is over too! Hooray…

Though she is much better now, but hubby and I still prefer her to stay at home to build her immune system up again! Furthermore the weather nowadays is so unpredictable, so even though today is hubby off day, we didn’t really bring her out to “kai-kai”. So since we tak jadi go “kai-kai” today, I’ve decided to make Ondeh-Ondeh at home which I expect it would take me half a day to complete the whole process. From steaming and mashing the sweet potatoes, making dough, wrapping, boiling and lastly serve on the dining table. It indeed very very time consuming!! That wasn’t the hardest part though; the worse thing was… my ondeh-ondeh cracked terribly after wrapped and some cracked even worse when it comes to boiling and hence the palm sugar leaked all over! So in the end… out of so many ondeh-ondeh, there were only about 15pieces are presentable (可以见人的)the rest are all in the dustbin! *sob… sob* (There were actually more unfinished dough and palm sugar in the dustbin as I got to rush for my facial appointment.) I gave 10 pieces to my auntie who live near by, I and hubby shared only 5 pieces. Haha.

All in all, I don’t really satisfy the outcome of my Ondeh-Ondeh this time round.
1, the dough doesn't has the "Q" texture to me.
2, I should add more pandan juice as it wasn’t fragrant/green enough.
3, it was terribly ugly and messy… (I mean those in the dustbin one)
I think I still prefer to buy from outside if I crave for it next time. Haha. Ya ya, I know I’m lazy…

So these are few 可以见人的 Ondeh-Ondeh. Haha!

Merryn, really ah? Means my Ondeh2 is a perfect one loh? Thanks, you know, only those I posted up here are presentable. Those in the dustbin really "cannot see people"!

Catherine, 谢谢!我会再接再厉的!! 希希好多了。

Mery, you take good care too! Can understand how you feel when Ryan was not feeling well.

Sharon, We are on the "lazy boat" la.. haha. no la, just kidding. Because hubby and I love this Ondeh2 very much, so I thought of trying lor.

Rachel, thanks. Hopefully there will be another "next try" to come. haha. =) because seriously I think making Ondeh2 is really very challenging!

Hihi Serene, hope your girl is getting better by now :) Ahh, about the Ondeh-ondeh.. don't feel disappointed. Maybe you have not put enough water to the dough (as it is supposed to be a rather sticky dough). I used to add water little by little until the dough become manageable like 汤圆's dough :)

Glad that Xixi is recovering now. You are right, the weather is extremely hot. Better cut down outdoor activities and drink plenty of water.

You have finally make your ondeh2. For me, altho the texture looked slightly different, but it still looked yummy. As HN said, maybe the dough is too dry that makes it burst thru the boiling?

Kambateh, you already done a very good job!

Yes, the dough should be like tang yuan dough.

Good luck in your next attempt.

u very rajin mom hor..

Kristie said...

true what other mummies said, the dough should be very elastic... in fact mine was a bit sticky, i added more flour to make it more manageable to roll into balls, this way u definitely have a very chewy and 'Q' texture! :)

ur ondeh2 looks good though!

did you pour boiling hot water to the flour ? you need a cooked dough to wrap the fillings.
